How to Make French Madeleines on ABC33/40’s Talk of Alabama

Happy Sunday, y’all!

I don’t share photos of myself very often here on the blog, but Fridayย was an exciting day! A month or so ago I was contacted by someone from Talk of Alabama, which is a local news show here in town. They asked if I’d be interested in doing a cooking demo! I think my first response was panic and anxiety, but those were quickly replaced with excitement. How can you say no to that!?

I made these French madeleines, which I posted on Thursday. I went with those because they’re SO easy and they bake in about 8 minutes. You have to make everything on the air–nothing can be made beforehand, so that ruled out a bunch of stuff. I am not even going to tell you how many times I’ve made madeleines the past week in preparation for this! So many. Just so many madeleines.

But the show was really fun! I think most of my anxiety was because I didn’t know how the whole timing thing was going to work. It was fine though and the people there were so nice! The floor manager and the anchors were really great about chatting between segments to let me know what was going on. I did have one of those, OMG that’s what my hair looks like? moments, but there’s really not much you can do about that when you’re already there! ๐Ÿ˜‰

The show opened with artist Melanie Morris, who brought along a gorgeous beachy painting. Then the band played and they were fantastic! I believe they called their music contemporary folk. You should definitely go check out Wise Water and give them a listen! Comedian Sheryl Underwood had us all CRACKING up in the studio. I was really glad she was there because it definitely lightened the mood, or at least for me. She danced around with one of my madeleines and gave me her seal of approval.

I couldn’t just go with one flavor of madeleines for this, obvi. After making the madeleine batter, I split it into five bowls. I went with chocolate chip, funfetti, lemon poppy seed, coconut, and maple cinnamon pecan. The anchors had never heard of madeleines, so I’m really glad I got to make something new to them and something that hadn’t been made on the show before.

And here’s the video! Unfortunately this only has my first segment on it. But really the rest is just me scooping the batter into the pans and then one of the anchors got really into the dusting wand. Then everyone devoured the madeleines as soon as the show was over! It was definitely a fun way to start a Friday and the weekend!
